About Me

Holly V MaslenWorking in black and white allows me to explore the relationship between occupied spaces and the spaces created in-between.

I am interested in finding balance and structure by using repetitive motifs and patterns.

The principles behind Japanese art aesthetics are a source of inspiration. I try to communicate the flow of energy in the world around us by using the Universally recognised symbols of circles, squares and triangles.

The Bauhaus Movement also informs my work in the sense that: “Designing is not a profession but an attitude. Design has many connotations. It is the organisation of materials and processes in the most productive way, in a harmonious balance of all elements necessary for a certain function. It is the integration of technological, social and economical requirements, biological necessities and the psychological effects of materials, shape, colour, volume and space. Thinking in relationships.” LASZLO MOHOLY-NAGY

Much of my work comes directly from my imagination. I like to create magical scenes which combine both an Eastern and Western aesthetic approach. Needing only three tools; a black Paper Mate pen, my left hand and a sheet of paper, I feel free, as an artist, to be continually creative.
